FEDERATION OF CANADIAN MUNICIPALITIES
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is the national voice for Canada’s local governments. FCM works on behalf of local governments to shape the national agenda, help solve national challenges and empower municipalities to build stronger communities— and a better Canada. At FCM:
We ADVOCATE in the nation’s capital: FCM brings the municipal voice to Parliament Hill to focus federal policy on local priorities and ensure that municipalities have the resources they need. Our advocacy work is rooted in solid policy research and analysis.
We CONNECT municipalities of all sizes nationwide, FCM provides a strong and united voice to shape the local response to national challenges.
We DELIVER innovative national and international programs, FCM helps communities thrive by addressing key local and national priorities—from promoting economic development, governance and reducing greenhouse gases to advancing the role of women in local government .
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ International department (FCMI) was created in 1987 with the goal of sharing knowledge and building relationships that strengthen local governments and promote local economic development in municipalities around the world. Since then, it has operated in more than 55 countries.
The Sustainable and Inclusive Communities in Latin America Program (CISAL), implemented by the FCM, is a regional initiative covering a period of five years (2014-2019) in which $20.5 million is invested to strengthen local governments in Colombia and Peru. The program is largely funded by Global Affairs of the Government of Canada (GAC), former Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Department of the Government of Canada (DFATD).
